Did You Know?

“Today is National Lighthouse Day! On this day in 1789, the United States Congress approved an Act “for the establishment and support of lighthouses, beacons, buoys, and public piers.” This piece of legislation commissioned the first Federal lighthouse, which was constructed at the entrance of Chesapeake Bay. Two hundred years later, Congress designated August 7th as National Lighthouse Day to commemorate this important moment in history and to celebrate these beautiful structures.

For centuries, lighthouses have served as beacons of light, guiding ships safely to harbor through storms, fog, or dark of night. To celebrate National Lighthouse Day, visit a local lighthouse near you or donate to a lighthouse preservation society.”

There are so many wonderful canvases out there with lighthouses and here’s just a few!

Lighthouse-Point Loma

Point Loma Lighthouse in San Diego, canvas by Danji Designs…

Port Elizabeth Lighthouse, canvas by DJ Designs…

Port Vincent, also by DJ Designs…

There are so many more lighthouse canvases out there… just go a looking!

I am happy to report that my package of stitching that will be seen in not one, but two upcoming issues of Needlepoint Now finally arrived to its intended destination. Whew!

Okay that’s one deadline down. I finished my next piece that was a cute little and fun stitch that Raymond Crawford will be selling at the American Needlepoint Guild Seminar Expo Night in Chicago. It’s screaming with Raymond’s style and is so Chicago and will come with a special surprise! Okay that’s the second deadline down.

Next one is a little piece that I am stitching and ooh so close…I just need to tweak 1 or 2 of the thread colors and then write the stitch guide. Okay that’s the third deadline. Then its right onto a trio of small canvases that are about 88% finished. That will be the 4th one. Followed up by Mrs. Cat.

So when you don’t see me on my normal blogging schedule…that’s why! and in 15 days I leave for Chicago.

I always have 1 or 2 of these boxes on the floor under the coffee table and I can usually find one of the cats snoozing in them. Sylvester is wondering why I am taking his picture!

and until next time…keep on stitching

About Vicky

Needlepoint, morning noon and evening! what could be better than this? I work on the computer in the daylight hours editing stitch guides and drawing stitches that you will see in the next Needlepoint Now for your stitching pleasure! In between this, there is time for taking pictures of my stitching adventures, Facebook and writing stitch guides for canvas that I am stitching for Needle Deeva, Maggie, Ruth Schmuff and others. Mostly needlepoint you ask? well we will talk about my cats Sylvester and AlleyCat, better known as "the brat". Of course I can't forget Felix who was the love of my life for over 14 years. He broke my heart as he departed for the Rainbow Bridge last year. Oh did I mention baseball?

  1. My mom loves lighthouses. I’ve cross-stitched and beaded a seashore/lighthouse piece for her on perforated paper, and my daughter is currently cross-stitching a lighthouse piece on 32-count linen for her Christmas present. The only “canvas” piece I stitched for her was a stitch and zip that I bought on a cruise.
