Off to see another wizard…

another wizard of stitches! Susan Portra that is. I consider myself very lucky that I am able take from Susan and Brenda on a regular basis. I enjoy taking from both of them and have learned so much. I have been taking from Brenda ever since she first came to California way back when. I must thank Brenda for bringing my stitching to another level. Susan, I have just started taking classes in the last year and yet I have learned so much from her too. I stitched on this canvas yesterday so that we can go over the last of the details on this. I really want to finish this BAG as I have never struggled so much with a stitch as I have with this one. I am sure that we will have time to start on a new canvas too!

Now there is no way that I should be driving 180 miles round trip today for a needlepoint class! I should be home getting the house ready for my sisters visit from New York…am I out of my mind? But a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do! Anyway she comes in late tomorrow night so I will have all day tomorrow to finish up the vacuuming and dusting, organizing and any last minute details. I am not sure how much I will be able to blog in the next week as it will depend on how much stitching I can do at night. My sister stitches a little, but she is the master quilter and she has been working on a new jacket for me. Maybe she will deliver it in person? and until next time… keep on stitching

About Vicky

Needlepoint, morning noon and evening! what could be better than this? I work on the computer in the daylight hours editing stitch guides and drawing stitches that you will see in the next Needlepoint Now for your stitching pleasure! In between this, there is time for taking pictures of my stitching adventures, Facebook and writing stitch guides for canvas that I am stitching for Needle Deeva, Maggie, Ruth Schmuff and others. Mostly needlepoint you ask? well we will talk about my cats Sylvester and AlleyCat, better known as "the brat". Of course I can't forget Felix who was the love of my life for over 14 years. He broke my heart as he departed for the Rainbow Bridge last year. Oh did I mention baseball?

  1. I’d drive 180 miles one way to take these classes! you are so lucky. This one is truly spectacular. (translate: this is a must-stitch!). Thank you for sharing, Vicky!

  2. Vicky, I am green with envy here on the east coast. Regular classes from Brenda and Susan. Cannot wait to see this canvas finished up. Who are we kidding, 180 miles driving is nothing — you and I have been known to fly across the country to take a class! Enjoy your class, your sister and, hopefully, your newly quilted masterpiece.

180 miles…your singing my song. I have had to drive for years for needlepoint. I miss the Goddess Weekends…and seeing you and all the other stitchers.

I love to take classes from Susan but haven’t been able to this last year. What she does with color and stitches is always amazing. Have fun and keep us posted. Love the stitching so far. Have a wonderful week with your sister

  4. Driving 180 miles round trip is a walk in the park. My stitching buddy Pam & I have been know to drive from New York to Vermont or Mass or Ct for a quilt shop- or even take a bus trip to New Hampshire (3 hours one way) for a quilt show and vendors. We call them field trips and it is a good way to bond with a fellow stitcher- no matter what medium you choose.
