Bird Watching!

RainbowBirds

A quiet day of stitching yesterday as I continue on with the Rainbow Birds. I was really challenged by the stitch that Brenda Hart had selected for the beak on bird #1 called “Scotch & Twill”. I am thinking to myself, when am I ever going to get an easy stitch on this canvas!? I made several attempts to get it, but with the stitched line that breaks the beak, I was just not seeing the starting point on the other side of that line. Sooner or later I realize that stitching needs to be fun and relaxing, so I move on to plan B. Now you are asking yourself, exactly what is plan B? and that is look for another stitch! so I get the books out and start looking.

The stitch diagram that was selected for bird #3 has flown the coop and not to be found anywhere, so in essence I am looking for 2 stitches. I had already been thinking of doing all the beaks in the same stitch, so that is what I finally came up with. I really do like the way it came out. I do still have 4 more decorative stitches to add to the birds. I started on one of them last night, called “coffee bean” and the name really fits the stitch. Of course this is another stitch that will just drive me to drink as it is drawn out on a piece of paper that is not graph paper! Oh the pain & agony that we go through for beauty!

In between this, there is time for taking pictures of my stitching adventures, Facebook and writing stitch guides for canvas that I am stitching for Needle Deeva, Maggie, Ruth Schmuff and others. Mostly needlepoint you ask? well we will talk about my cats Sylvester and AlleyCat, better known as "the brat". Of course I can't forget Felix who was the love of my life for over 14 years. He broke my heart as he departed for the Rainbow Bridge last year. Oh did I mention baseball?

  1. What in the world is a coffee bean stitch?
    Did you graph it?
The birds are really pretty. I’ve been watching your
    progress with interest.

    • It’s a Brenda stitch and it really does look like a coffee bean! It was tough getting it going as it was not drawn out on graph paper, so I had to guess the stitch length.
Thanks Janet! Having way too much fun with this canvas..
