Bird Talk!

The Rainbow Birds were feeling rather neglected, so I kept my date night plans and picked up the needle and stitched away. It was a cool and rainy day which makes for me perfect stitching weather! I finished up the last few fun stitches which was the chest in the middle bird with another laid filling stitch from Jean Taggart’s book using Splendor, Soie d’Alger and Kreinik. Also added the beads to the cheek in the first bird. It was suggested to me that I use black beading thread, but instead I use a strand of the same silks that I used to stitch the area. I am pleased with the way that it looks.

I can’t tell you enough how much I am enjoying stitching on this canvas! I will almost be a little sad when I do finish it…but then I can spend time with my other canvases such as Santa riding the Panda and a few new ones that I picked up at the Dallas market. The small hearts that I stitched for Needle Deeva were such a hit that I am going to do the other 3 by popular request! I also need to start the canvas that will be in Needlepoint Now next year by Needle Deeva.

I happened to get up for an iced tea refill last night and this is what I found when I returned. It seems that Sylvester took over my spot and when I suggested that he move, he stuck out his tongue at me as if to say ha! ha! absolutely no respect! What’s a mother to do? and until next time…keep on stitching

About Vicky

Needlepoint, morning noon and evening! what could be better than this? I work on the computer in the daylight hours editing stitch guides and drawing stitches that you will see in the next Needlepoint Now for your stitching pleasure! In between this, there is time for taking pictures of my stitching adventures, Facebook and writing stitch guides for canvas that I am stitching for Needle Deeva, Maggie, Ruth Schmuff and others. Mostly needlepoint you ask? well we will talk about my cats Sylvester and AlleyCat, better known as "the brat". Of course I can't forget Felix who was the love of my life for over 14 years. He broke my heart as he departed for the Rainbow Bridge last year. Oh did I mention baseball?

  1. I can say, having seen the birds in person, that this stitched piece is even more divine in person! Keep stitching because I can’t wait to see these beauties completed. (And, as we are all painfully aware, it is all about me!) Sylvester is protesting that you stopped stitching — either that or letting you know that he protests those fabulous birds taking more of your attention than him. Thanks for sharing, as always. Once this project is done, I am sure that the next one and the one after that will be wonderful, as well.

  2. Sylvester gets his point across. Love the tongue action and as I said before, he is a beauty. The Birds look so pretty and I bet they look better in person. Thanks for sharing and I am enjoying the stitching and those babies of yours. They aren’t spoiled, are they? I have an 85 lb Chocolate lab and she isn’t spoiled at all…and if you believe that I have a bridge to sell you.

    Have a great stitching weekend

  3. I missed seeing the birds in Dallas. I know I was supposed to see them but somehow it never happened. About beading thread…I normally use silk floss to attach beads. Sometimes I use a color to amtch the bead and others to match the paint. Depends. I think if you use the beads that have a cut edge and in places that will get some wear, then beading thread needs to be used. But otherwise, I go with silk floss. I am sure Sylvester approves.
