Even though yesterday I did not pick up a needle to put a stitch into any of my canvases, my entire day was all about stitching! Usually once a month I take a road trip starting out with breakfast at Julienne’s which is so worth the drive! On the road again with a shopping trip at A Stitch in Time for threads and onto the framers to look at what we are going to do with the Rainbow Birds. I picked up my “Fishful Thinking” and now I have to find just the right place to hang it! From the framers I stop at the San Gabriel Bead Co to look for beads that I just can’t live without, you know, stash enhancement. Usually all the shoppers in there are looking for beads to make jewelry, so when you walk in there with a canvas, heads turn! A quick stop at Starbuck’s for an iced tea before I visit one more shop for a few more threads.
After such a busy day, I was too tired to stitch, so I spent most of the evening pouring through books looking for inspiration for that perfect stitch! I organized all of the threads, including the ones that I just purchased for my 4 new projects. I am looking for building type stitches, grass, sky and beading ideas for the flowers and leaves. I will make notes of the stitches that I will try, hoping that the needlepoint gods will be good to me with both my selection of threads and stitches!
You know I really did do a better job than this making my bed this morning. Now that big lump wasn’t there when I made the bed with that beautiful quilt that my sister made for me! Where did that come from? Sylvester is that you? AlleyCat, where are you? and until next time…keep on stitching
OK Vicky, looks like you will need some of the new Sundance flower beads for the flowers. How about some Bunger Beaks for the chicks…I call that thing she does with a q-tip for beaks a Bunger Beak.
For the walls of the house, this might work if the count works out. Try some Rhodes stitches so it looks like those granite blocks? This way, if you decide to fluff up the birds, this will bring the walls forward of the birds then you can build the flowers over that to give it some great perspective. You will have basically 5 layers. The dotted background, the inside walls of the house, the chicks, the house walls and roof then finally the flowers, each being built up a bit more with texture.
Looks like a fun piece…if I only had time to stitch canvases other than my own. On the contrary, it never stops me for spewing forth advice.
About the bed and the cats…my 2 little Italian Greyhounds are always under blankets. They have a daybed and it has a electric blanket on low especially to keep their skinny little 8 and 10 lb bodies warm and cozy. Where would we be without our little ones to keep us amused. You never know what they will do next.
And you never know what Deeva will come up with next. Her designs are so different than mine. They are happy, fun and bright.
How funny. My Granddaughter has a cat named Elly and she is a sweet baby for sure. I was at my Daughter earlier this week and went looking for her. I always give her rubbies and for some reason she didn’t show up. I found her in Emilys bed just zonked. Must have had a busy nite.
As usual, your canvases, threads are always a joy to look at. Sounds like you had a great day even though you didn’t stitch. I love those shopping days. Enjoy stitching today.
