A much anticapted arrival of a very special package was at my door the other day. Even though I abosolutely love fine chocolates, this is so much better as they really do take all the calories out! What am I so excited about? a box of Gloriana Silk Floss! all the colors in their silk floss line. There is such a marvelous selection of colors with the most amazing names and just how do they come up with these creative names? Do they have sleepless nights so that they can come up with these great ideas? Actually one of their colors that I know where the name came from, Ada’s Rainbow which is named after Ada of Eye Candy. I think that it must be very cool to get a thread named after you! Way to go Ada!
Gloriana has a varied line of threads and besides the Silk Floss you can stitch with their Princess Perle, Petite Princess Perle, Lorikeet Wool, Silk Ribbons in 4mm, 7mm, and 13mm and Florimell Silk Floss which is an artisan-dyed Soie d’Alger. Gloriana is such a wonderful thread to work with and the colors! oh the colors! Such as Hydrangea, a perfect thread for a sky. How about Purkle Fred which is a color that Sharon G suggested that I try. How about Crimson & Cinnamon which I am using on the Rainbow Birds? In another project I have selected Avonlea Green, Baby Corn, Rosewood, Holiday Green, Spanish Moss and Crimson. Now if you are using Holiday Green and you would like to do one of your stitches in perle, you will find the same color in that thread! Thank you Anne for these amazing threads!
On a sad note, thank you Jerry Kreinik for your wonderful threads, a thread that no stitcher can live without. Thank you for creating the colorful palette that we all know and love. Rest in peace…
Wow! I know the feeling! I know there are so many great thread lines out there, but I find Gloriana to be the most consistent with dye lots in silks. Being a silk snob, this works for me. I also love to be able to select the same color in different threads to vary texture. Enjoy you threads Vicky. She has the best nature colors which are so important to me when I am doing landscapes. In my next book I hope to divide her threads into water colors, sky colors, fall, spring and summer greens and so on. Also will try to get my mitts on a color ring of ThreadworX and Crescent. This might be a great article for Needlepoint Now.
I just love the name Purkle Fred. Anne does spend lots of sleepless nights thinking of colors. She also studies canvases to see what is needed. Recently, Anne was doing research on samplers to try and match some of the colors used. Smart lady.
Yes, we will all miss Jerry Kreinik. I have known the Kreiniks for nearly 40 years. My heart goes out to the family for their loss.
What a scrumptious package. I love all of the Gloriana Threads. I am going to use Lorikeet for the Witch’s Hair. LOVE the Princess Perle Petite, too.
