Dallas April Showers bring May Flowers…everywhere!

Isn’t this amazing? This is by Sew Much Fun and I am just in love with everything about this! The finishing, the background stitch, the selection of threads, beads and ideas that are in each and every petal and especially the center of the flower! wow it just keeps you picking it up again and again and looking as you discover something new about each and every time! This would be quite a conversation piece anywhere.

I really love doing the trade shows for many reasons. Now what do I like best? That is a hard question to answer…seeing all the new designs, threads and accessories firsthand…seeing all the shops and talking about needlepoint…meeting new shop owners and seeing their enthusiasm…visiting with friends and making new friendships…and dining out afterwards! This restaurant, Rise has become a favorite of ours. Such a favorite that we went there twice this time and such a favorite of Missy that she flew in from Baltimore just to wine and dine there!

Rise is a French food experience, a relaxed bistro atmosphere that focus on the souffle, the masterpiece of French cuisine. There are not enough words to describe this place, so I will let the pictures do the talking…

On the left is an escargot souffle, and the aroma of garlic! wow! this is Missy’s favorite.

The other is a truffle infused mushroom, which was my selection. Could I take one home please?

This is a birds eye view looking into the kitchen area where they prepare the souffles. Our waiter was the young man in blue and he was quite charming!

The dessert souffle that I ordered is hazlenut praline and when they present it to you, they open the center with a spoon and pour in the chocolate sauce. Heaven!

I brought one of their cookbooks, not that I cook at all…just wanted one!

I am getting to the end of pictures from Dallas, but I have one more to share with you. This is from Share One’s Ideas. Sharon is the artist and she specializes in soft colors with an old world style. This canvas is so diiferent and special, that it really stopped me in my tracks as I saw it in the window.

I have a date this weekend with my needle and the Rainbow Birds and a baseball game. Jane this picture is for you… from the San Diego Padres, the team of the military. and until next time…keep on stitching

About Vicky

Needlepoint, morning noon and evening! what could be better than this? I work on the computer in the daylight hours editing stitch guides and drawing stitches that you will see in the next Needlepoint Now for your stitching pleasure! In between this, there is time for taking pictures of my stitching adventures, Facebook and writing stitch guides for canvas that I am stitching for Needle Deeva, Maggie, Ruth Schmuff and others. Mostly needlepoint you ask? well we will talk about my cats Sylvester and AlleyCat, better known as "the brat". Of course I can't forget Felix who was the love of my life for over 14 years. He broke my heart as he departed for the Rainbow Bridge last year. Oh did I mention baseball?

  1. That pillow from Sew Much Fun is fantastic. You are right, you just see more and more every time you look at it. The individual petals with various wonderful stitches; the ribbon work on the center of the flower; the AMAZING finishing. Too wonderful.
It is very difficult to decide the favorite part of a trade show. New designs, old friends and socializing are at the top of the list. Rise, indeed, is fabulous. Great wine list, terrific service and, oh, the food. I am craving an escargot souffle right now. We’ve really got to get them to franchise!
The cookbook is lovely and makes it seem very possible to create an escargot souffle in my very own kitchen — maybe this weekend I will satisfy that craving. We’ll see.
Thanks for covering the show in all of its aspects so masterfully on your blog.

    • Thanks Jane! I will check it out. Our color commentator on the radio, Jerry Coleman served 2 tours of duty and he talks more about his time in the service than his 4 World Series Rings as the 2nd baseman with the Yankees way back when.

  2. Vicky and Jane, in WWII there were a lot of troop ships docking in South African ports on their way to and from places they’d usually have gone through Suez to reach. And if they couldn’t dock, they’d take on supplies from little commuter boats!

When they did dock, the locals used to try to give the soldiers a good time. Once an American ship that docked in Cape Town put a few baseball teams together and they played at Newlands, which is usually used for rugby. My parents went to watch, and for years afterwards they were still giggling at the cheeky comments that the spectators (other soldiers, mostly) made, and the bright replies from the players. They didn’t get hooked on baseball as a sport, but baseball as a cheerful way to spend a wartime afternoon really appealed to them.
