The Deeva and I were on a mission! A mission to locate ThreadworX 1069, “Spanish Olives” to add to our stash! Now you ask, just why did we just have to have this color? well there was so much chatter about it on Facebook, that we figured that it must be a have to have color. It was all started by Robin King teasing us with showing off sections of her stitching these new Needle Deeva Halloween canvases.
We drove up the California coast on a rainy, dreary morning to locate this thread and of course the shop that we selected to go to was the one day of the week that it was closed! Didn’t they know that we were on a mission? What were we to do? I realized that we were in the vicinity of ThreadworX, the overdyed thread company that we all know and love! I gave them a call and asked if we could stop by? What better place to find this thread than at the place where they make it?
Travis, the owner and Sandy, the master dyer warmly greeted the Deeva and I at the door. We were treated to a most fascinating tour of the dyeing room, the drying areas, the shelves and shelves of threads just waiting to be dyed and the packaging areas. I could have stayed there for hours as Sandy meticulously explained the different methods of dyeing the threads from the cottons, to the silks, to the wools, to the metallics and then the synthetics all in manners different from the last. We watched them attach the label to the threads and prepare orders for all over the United States and Japan, some small and some not so small!
Of course we were able to locate two skeins of ThreadworX 1069! I was able to add the new colors of the overdyed Soie d’Alger with names like Mint Julep, Lemon Chiffon and Santa’s Whiskers just to name a few of them. How do they come up with all these names? I was thrilled with my stash enhancement and of course the tour. Thank you Travis & Sandy.
I was rejuvenated when I got home and soon was stitching away. Now this is what happens when you get up for a refreshment break! and until next time…keep on stitching
What a great trip, Vicky. I’m envious that you got a tour.
That’s what I call a fun field trip!
