Well, well…

AlleyCat1123

AlleyCat’s hiding her naked belly from you…which you really only see when she is sitting or showing it off when laying on her back.

She was diagnosed with irritable bowel disease… and when I asked why it’s called that? when you would think that would be issues with the litter box detail and the answer was “go figure…that’s a cat for you!”

So she will be on steroids along with another pill that I can’t even find a place to fill that script. Check the blood every so often and then soon a new diet.

The vet told me that I was a woman after his own heart after hearing that I had cancelled my travel plans for the Thanksgiving holidays for the cat. Well, she is much more than just a cat to me…and how could I leave her? I was supposed to winging my way to Missy’s to partake in her newly remodeled kitchen, adult beverages, Thanksgiving festivities, big girl drinks, lots of laughs and giggles, the monumentous dessert party on the day after and so much more. I’m sorry Missy, but you will have Colleen to help you.

So thank you for all of your emails, texts, phone calls and messages wishing us the best. Now just wish me well giving her those pills!

and until next time…keep on stitching

About Vicky

Needlepoint, morning noon and evening! what could be better than this? I work on the computer in the daylight hours editing stitch guides and drawing stitches that you will see in the next Needlepoint Now for your stitching pleasure! In between this, there is time for taking pictures of my stitching adventures, Facebook and writing stitch guides for canvas that I am stitching for Needle Deeva, Maggie, Ruth Schmuff and others. Mostly needlepoint you ask? well we will talk about my cats Sylvester and AlleyCat, better known as "the brat". Of course I can't forget Felix who was the love of my life for over 14 years. He broke my heart as he departed for the Rainbow Bridge last year. Oh did I mention baseball?

  1. Good luck with the pills. We ground up Watson’s steroids and mixed them with mashed up Vienna sausages, which he adores. (Who knew?! Stumbled across a mention of all animals loving Vienna sausages when he was refusing to eat.) Worked for us and perhaps it will for you. And Vienna sausages come in all sorts of flavors, and even low fat! I prefer Libby’s brand but Armour has more varieties. Just FYI. Happy Thanksgiving!

  2. Pill pockets for cats…available at your vet or pet store…one of those products that make you think…now why didn’t I think of that!!!
For prescription…. Sometimes YOUR pharmacy will have the medication!!!
Good luck and good health to Alleycat!

  3. We are birds of a feather, I would have cancelled my plans as well. Good for you. So glad to hear was nothing extremely serious. Surgery is the worst. This will be a very special holiday for all three of you. Enjoy it! Hugs to all, Brenda

  4. So glad to hear about Alley Cat. Good luck with the medicine. Sneakers belonged to the only 4 people on the planet who could not get a pill down a cat. Vet gave up and gave us liquid stuff that was hard to do too. I could not have left Alley Cat without knowing.

  5. So glad it was nothing more serious, though giving cats pills is risking your talented fingers. Alley cat found a way to keep you home with her for longer before you go running off again. I am thankful she will be better soon, and leave it to her to have something I thought only people had.

  6. Hey Vicky. Love your blog…I’m more of a lurker than a writer. Giving our cat pills in the Pill Pockets worked for a while and then he quit taking them for some reason or another, and I had to find another solution. I finally landed on Blue Wilderness Treats. They are soft and moist, so you can mold them around the pill. Cupcake, our cat, loves the Chicken and Trout flavor….sounds horrible but he likes it.

  7. I’m glad you now have a name associated with AlleyCat’s ailment! My cat takes meds regularly for hyperthyroidism and our vet uses a mail order pharmacy in Arizona, called Roadrunner Pharmacy. Because our cat takes her medication twice a day, and doesn’t like pills, and we don’t like to pill her, we pay a little more to have the medication compounded into a cream we just place inside her ear flap.

  8. Tough call, maybe coat the pill with a little olive oil to make it slide down. Other things may cause her problems to be worse. Poor baby. Hug her from all your friends, she’ll get better from sheer force of us all loving her.

    • well Dee after 1 pill last night, she will not hold her head still enough for a second! I don’t want to have to fight with her…so I will figure out some way. The cats don’t eat there canned food from the same bowl or let alone together…so I may try that way. Thanks!

  9. Oh, Vicky, I am so glad to hear this report on AlleyCat, and I am still laughing about only the dark meat from a Costco rotisserie chicken! I am sure Missy and Colleen will be missing you, but it’s a good decision to be home with your babies. Good luck with the pills! Been thru that and was terrible at giving them.

  10. You may try a compounding pharmacy. They also can do most medicines in a liquid form with lots of great flavors. My cat as a kitten was on a medication for several years that I was getting compounded. They are all so worth whatever it takes. Great to hear a treatable condition! Lilly and Rascal send Alley Cat hugs.

  11. So happy to hear this news! I hope Alley Cat continues to recover well. It’s great that the surgery is behind her….totally agree with your plans – no way would you have enjoyed yourself. What a wonderful Thanksgiving blessing (even if giving pills may prove interesting). It sounds like you have many great suggestions to try out. Vicky, I am so relieved for you and Alley Cat!
