I always knew that flowers had a meaning such as roses for love, but never did I realize what a special language that they really do speak! where the individual colors of roses each mean a different type of love and all types of flowers, greens and herbs each have their very own identity.

Yes I know that I should have been home last night stitching away, but something else was tugging at me. There was a book signing with the author of “The Language of Flowers” at Adelaide’s in conjunction with Warwick’s, two of my most favorite shops anywhere! Adelaide’s is the most amazing shop of plants, flowers, orchids, gifts and inspiration that as when you walk in, all your cares in the world just escape you. Warwick’s is an independent bookstore nestled in with the best greeting cards, gifts, pens, jewelry, art & office supplies and all that kind of must have stuff.

In a way I could look at it that I was just doing research for my stitching. Now in case you are thinking that I am stretching this a bit, just think of how many floral canvases that you have stitched? Recreate in your mind all of those beautiful canvases that you have seen and fallen in love with that have flowers as the focal point? or canvases that you have stitched with big beautiful flowers, greens, fruits, vegetables and herbs? Now I know that all my orchids speak a language of “refined beauty”.

It was a wonderful evening as we listened to the author, Vanessa Diffenbaugh speak of her book and her passions of the language of flowers that are intertwined in this novel about the life of a young lady. I am looking forward to really getting into this book. I read a few chapters last night until my eyes got too sleepy and I know that I am just going to love it!

This was Vanessa signing our books after her speaking, reading and graciously answering many questions. She is nestled in among the beautiful orchid display at Adelaide’s. In case you are wondering, yes the orchids were calling out to me. There was a new coloration that just came in that the girls had to show me! They quickly whisked me in the back so I could admire its beauty and yes it is coming home with me…but I will go back next week and pick it up.

Today will be a busy day as I finish up one more project for the next issue of Needlepoint Now for your stitching pleasure. It is a Shelley canvas and ooh so cute! Some time for stitching and I also need to get ready for my weekend trip to A Stitch in Time and classes with Brenda Hart. I so look forward to my time with Brenda as she so inspires me and always challenges me. I probably won’t see you for a few days depending when I have time and a connection.

The kids have lots of choices for their little cat naps these days! and until next time…keep on stitching
