I thought this would be a purr~fect send off for me, since I am headed to the Needlepoint Now Studio. That would be tomorrow morning at 0dark30. What was I thinking when I booked my flight? I guess that I wasn’t thinking…but I am usually a very early riser, so what’s a few less hours of sleep in the scheme of things? I am fortunate that I can sleep on the plane…and the best sleep is gotten when I have a window seat.
This is the back cover of the March/April Issue of Needlepoint Now that is at the printers right now as we speak! I will get to see it live and in person when I get there and I can’t wait. It will be very exciting to see my name in print, well I mean in print AND on the magazine. The front cover is a beautiful gold work piece of a Fleur de Lis designed and stitched by my sister in black cats, Meredith Willett. I would share that cover with you too, but I don’t have a copy of it at the moment. You can see a sneak peak of it though on Facebook, by typing in Needlepoint Now. The magazine will be mailed to you on March 8th and you should allow 3-4 weeks for delivery.
Now I am assuming that everyone who reads this blog is a subscriber of Needlepoint Now. Aren’t you? Well why not? It is a wonderful magazine, well not just because I am part of it…but because Elizabeth has assembled an awesome group to help her put the magazine together. Then she works her magic and pours her whole heart and soul into each and every new issue to make it the best one ever!
Now if you are not a subscriber, why not? Maybe I can change your mind as I am sure Elizabeth would give me a few extra copies to share with you. So if you are not a subscriber, please drop me a convincing note why I should select your name… To be considered for this, your address needs to be in the continental US, please. See I told you that I wasn’t going to wait until me next blogoversary for the next giveaway! I will leave this open through Sunday March 12th.
The trip to the studio is of course to work! work! work! I have a pile of questions assembled for all the things that frustrate and make me use bad words about Illustrator. Illlustrator is the program that we use to draw the stitches for the magazine. I really have learned so much in the last year as Elizabeth is such a wonderful teacher. I have finally found some classes at a local college for Illustrator that I will be signing up for…but what were they thinking when they scheduled them on Monday nights? Don’t they realize that will conflict with baseball?
Elizabeth and I will also be stitching together on the Kelly Clark’s Spring Crazy Quilt to ready ourselves for the next few issues of the stitch guide. Sometimes the best way to explain it is to have stitched it yourself! The 22 sections of composite stitches with all these wonderful threads are readied for the seam treatments. That is what defines it as a crazy quilt. I have purchased a book suggested by Kelly on these type of stitches…so I am ready!
The cupboard is full of cat food and treats. The litter is changed and a few boxes have been strategically placedĀ on the floor for feline napping spots. The plants and orchids have been watered…so I guess that I better start packing. I might not see you for a few days as sometimes my internet connections can be iffy. and until next time…keep on stitching
AlleyCat wasted no time getting into this box!
just look at her. Hey, AC, don’t you think it is kind of small for you? On a second thought, cats are known contortionists so she’ll probably find a way/
Have fun, Vicky and enjoy your trip
She never did sleep in it, but sat thay way what seemed like furever!
I don’t think that box is big enough for Alley Cat to sleep in. It looks like she can barely sit in it. The Easter House looks lovely, Vicky.
oh it is a “purr~fect” fit for her!
You know, that box makes Alley Cat look fat. Just sayin’
LOL
Have a safe and fun trip and hurry back to us.
It makes her look fat, because she is! That way there is more of her to love! You know they say that the cats that were rescued from the streets, their appetites are never sated. They think that they won’t find their next meal, so she crunches on the dry food often. She doesn’t beg, she only gets treats on very special occassions and Sylvester is underweight for his size…so what’s a Mom to do?
follow most of the needlepoint blogs listed but never left a comment. also doing the Kelly Clark crazy quilt project. What book did you buy that Kelly recommended? Thanks
Thanks for checking in! The book is Embroidery & Crazy Quilt Stitch Tool by Judith Baker Montano
I started needlepointing a few years ago. I bought my first few NP Now magazines at my LNS with every new issue. After my 3rd or 4th purchase I started subscribing 2 years at a time and buying back issues on occasion. My friends & I use it regularly for projects and refer to stitches in it the same as we do for many popular stitch books. The first person to get it sends email or txt referring to it while the other eagerly await theirs. Then we pour over it together with oohs & ahhs of what projects or stitches we can do or use next. I can not recommend it highly enough! I know you are going to have a great time Vicky!
Thank you Lisa!
I used to subscribe but my magazine was the last one delivered (I always thought my mail woman was reading it first). My LNS carries the magazine, so now I purchase it there. Kills two birds with one stone: I get it long before I got it in the mail (and maybe my mailwoman subscribed now tht she can’t read mine) and I suppport my LNS.
That’s great Sue and thank you!
I’ve not seen NPN in awhile. My subscription ran out and our local NP store closed. Such a sad state of affairs.
The Easter House is beautiful and looks the the perfect Spring cover for Needlepoint Now. Congratulations on another great finish and on landing the cover! Looking forward to poring over the magazine (eventually — I, like others posting, never seem to get mine in a timely fashion). I, however, always find it worth the wait. Thanks for the sneak peak, Vicky. Maybe if I pester the mailman…
Thanks Missy…and yes pester that mailman!
Hi Vicky – I subscribed to Needlepoint Now at the TNNA show – Elizabeth and those of you on staff are doing a wonderful job on this magazine. Can’t wait to see the new issue when it arrives!
Thank you Peggi!
Why I Merit a Lovely Copy of Needlepoint Now, by Roaring Girl (Ms.)
One big reason is that the Roaring Girl can’t afford to just subscribe to magazines willy-nilly: she needs to have a sample to hand first. She could stand in a store and carefully peruse a copy of Needlepoint Now cover to cover, but that would be tacky (and she isn’t sure that anyone in a reasonable driving distance carries it, anyway).
The second big reason is…well, the Roaring Girl has entered the information phase of a new interest–the time when one reads needlepoint blogs, looks at the wonderful eye candy, maps out stitches in one’s head. Brooding, in other words, like mama hen, only not involving eggs. So, not involving chickens. So, maybe I’ve crossed my metaphor wires (metaphoric wires? Can wires be metaphors? My chicken was a metaphor…). Maybe I should just slowly back away from this paragraph while I still retain some dignity.
In sum, a copy of Needlepoint Now (and possibly a resultant subscription) would greatly help me to just take the darn leap already and DO SOMETHING with the canvases I already have. A kindly nudge, that’s what it would be (and involving no chickens, metaphoric or otherwise! I am quite pleased with myself!)
well of course I will send you the latest issue…
