I am stitching away on my Thanksgiving pieces for this newest set by NeedleDeeva. I am not stitching them in any particular order, I just select the next one that talks to me! I have stitched the wigwam, so why not the Pilgrim house? Besides there is a cat in it, what could be better than that?
I decided that there will be certain elements stitched the same from piece to piece. The sky, the corners with the apples and leaves, the ocean and the beach are those that will stay constant.
The stitch that I selected for the roof came to me easily and I think that the thread was a purr~fect choice! I am thrilled with the way it came out. I tried creating the flowers in the window with silk ribbons, but they are too tiny, so I opted for the beads instead. Once upon a time I would have done all French knots, but now it is a mixture of both.
Now how did I want to stitch the house? would it be bricks? would it be small pieces of wood? Since I knew that the Deeva researched the type of wigwams that the Indians lived in at that time, I thought I would Google Pilgrim houses. They were built with one long piece of wood the length of the side of the house and the wood was very grayed. I dug through the stash and found an overdye that worked.
There was a fair amount of reverse stitching as I experimented with the best ways to stitch the pumpkins, grass and walkway to the house. What thread to use? overdye or not?
This was the canvas before it was stitched. I am not sure what I like best about starting a new project…that first stitch? The blank canvas ahead of you just crying to come to life? or the last stitch when you say, yeah I am finished! or even when you take it off the stretcher bars. What about you? what is fav?
The kids and I stayed in yesterday, yes even AlleyCat didnot try to venture out! The day, well the weekend was filled with lots of stitching and great baseball. They say that everytime you watch a game you will see something or some play that you have never seen before…anybody who watched the Dodgers & Padres Saturday night will know exactly what I am talking about!
The kids were hard at work sleeping away while I stitched the day away. They were really good as they realized it was too warm to snuggle! and until next time…keep on stitching
What stitch did you do the sand in? Looks easy and fairly quick.:)
The first stitch is fun…but I like the process of stitching . What fibers to put where, what stitch and what stitch goes with the first stitch and do they look good with each other . The fibers I picked at first , are they really the best for my purposes. After resolving all the problems I love to see the finished product. Then on to the next canvas -repeat the above.
I am not sure the name of that stitch…it came from the new Landscape Stitch Book that I just love! love! love!
