It’s Berry, Berry Good!

This is no exception! One can never have enough beads and these are the latest addition to my ever growing stash collection of beads.

These are Berry Beads by Miyuki. Miyuki is a bead company in Japan, as is Toho and one of these days I really am going to do some serious research and write an article on beads. Really I am! There is so much to learn and understand about beads. One of the most important things that I have committed to memory, once you fall in love with a type of bead or it’s special color that goes perfectly with that wonderful thread that you have found…you will need to almost always go back to that shop to buy that same bead. There are so many 1000’s of colors of beads, then it’s the finish such as clear, galvanized, silver lined, gold lined, 24K gold, Aurora Borealis, then bead types…OMG! see why I want to write that article? This is just scratching the surface!

Okay back to the Berry Beads. This was my latest find when Elizabeth and I went stash shopping while I was hanging out at the Needlepoint Now Studios last week. Always a stop at Mindy’s Needlepoint Factory and then Harlequin Beads. Yes that Mindy! I love going to her shop and this time I remembered to bring my camera, so I have some pictures to share with you. Of course I picked up the 2 most expensive Berry Beads while at the bead store, a gold lined crystal and a 24K gold plated. I am thinking that the gold lined crystal could be a possibility for Bastet, the Egyptian Cat by Tapestry Fair.

I will need to experiment how to secure the beads to the canvas yet. Whether it be with another bead? or a French knot? Or with a few stitches? hmm, not sure yet. As soon as I figure that out, you will be the first to know! I am sure that this will need to be an accent bead, rather than to bead an area in it’s entireity.

Speaking of Bastet, I think I have most of the threads that the Fab Four suggested for me to bring with me. There is one Kreinik color that I haven’t located yet. They suggested 3 colors of Accentuate to go with the overdyes that I selected, which I have, but I am going to look through my Petite Silk Lame’ Braid too! Just a few short weeks left before I head east.

I have been putting in long hours since I got back from my visit to the Needlepoint Now Studios as I try to get all my work done for the magazine, writing stitch guides for the Thanksgiving Peeps and stitch them too! I never ever want to be the one to hold up the presses. Night time has been for watching the Olympics and stitching. I have been working on the background for the Thanksgiving and am really enjoying it. So far it is coming out far better than I hoped for so I am thrilled beyond words!

Certian people and we won’t mention any names now will we AlleyCat? A certian person has a million and one places that she can park her behind, but just why does it need to be right in the middle of what I am working on? and until next time…keep on stitching

About Vicky

Needlepoint, morning noon and evening! what could be better than this? I work on the computer in the daylight hours editing stitch guides and drawing stitches that you will see in the next Needlepoint Now for your stitching pleasure! In between this, there is time for taking pictures of my stitching adventures, Facebook and writing stitch guides for canvas that I am stitching for Needle Deeva, Maggie, Ruth Schmuff and others. Mostly needlepoint you ask? well we will talk about my cats Sylvester and AlleyCat, better known as "the brat". Of course I can't forget Felix who was the love of my life for over 14 years. He broke my heart as he departed for the Rainbow Bridge last year. Oh did I mention baseball?

  1. I think she wants attention 🙂 And she got it
At least she doesn’t do as a certain othet cat does as she waits for me to tack a canvas on stretcher bars and when the canvas is all stretched and good to go it is instantly tranformed into a cat bed

    • Yes you are right Palma! Sylvester used to do that when he was a little one…actually got caught sharpening his claws on one. He didn’t break any canvas threads, but a fair amount of restitching had to be done!

  2. Vicky, if you want me to check Designer’s Desk for the kreinik, just let me know. I am sitting in my car waiting for a new-to-me bead shop to open. This could be dangerous.

  3. Alley Catj just wants to be noticed and who else will supervise your work. Would love to Learn more about beads and it sounds like a great idea for an article.
