Who’da thunk it? Today is black cat appreciation day! I am always ready to celebrate my love of cats, especially my black cats whether they be purring or in needlepoint. This was my first black cat that I stitched, it’s a vintage Maggie canvas and it is called “Max in the Window.” I was kind of new at this stitchy thing and didn’t have a clue how to stitch the yellow and black background. I was having so much trouble seeing…so I basted the boundary lines and then literally turned the canvas over so the back of it was facing up and I worked a daring pattern. I could see what I was doing, it worked and I was thrilled!
Black cats are often the last ones to be adopted at shelters, sometimes because of culture, thoughts of bad luck idea and superstition. I guess you can tell that I am not superstitious at all.
This canvas is by Eye Candy and she is Peekaboo Kitty. Brenda Hart suggested the stitch background and selected the threads and beads to be used…a purr~fect combination!
This was my last finish in the black cat needlepoint department named Deco Kitty. Canvas by Sharon G, stitch and thread selection by moi! I really enjoyed this canvas and was sort of sad when it was finished.
This is my newest canvas that I will be starting in 10 days, 2 hours and 37 minutes…but who is counting? This is Bastet, feline goddess of ancient Egyptian religion who was worshipped since the Second Dynasty, but shhh don’t tell AlleyCat as I don’t want her getting any ideas. This canvas is by Tapestry Fair and I will be starting it with the Fab Four of Suzanne Howren, Tony Minieri, Beth Robertson and Meredith Willett at the ANG seminar. Tomorrow I promise to show the canvas with the threads and beads that I have shopped for so far.
I have been working very hard making sure that everything is done and ready before I head for points East. My magazine work is pretty much done, well except for one stitch that Elizabeth is going to help me with. Been spending countless hours with my Mac working on stitch guides for the Deeva. No shopping, no breakfast at The Cottage, no retail therapy, didn’t even go to a baseball game on the last homestand for The Padres. What the hey? well I am almost finished and I see the light at the end of the tunnel, well for now anyway. I might even have time to finish the stitch guide for Cat’s Night Out AND for a baseball game on Saturday night!
Here is the real celebration of black cats and I cannot imagine my life with out them! I don’t need a special to appreciate my cats, I do that every day. AlleyCat, looks like you need a little manicure.
It was hot yesterday and they both seem to be melting into the carpet. AlleyCat was flicking her tail and well of course Sylvester had to bat at it. She was whining as if to say “Mom, he’s touching my tail!” and until next time…keep on stitching
Hi Vicky:
Your black cat needlepoint pictures are beautiful! I agree with you that everyday is cat appreciation day. I hadn’t realized that black cats are often the last to be adopted. We had a beautiful black cat named Beans (and we lived on Jelley Avenue and I love jellybeans so we played this up alot). Beanie has since passed away and our other two are orange and gray. Thanks as always for sharing Sylvester and Alley Cat with us. Wanda
Ooh I love that name of Beanie, Beans…too clever! Thank you as always for stopping by
Good boy, Sylvester! Keep Alley Cat on her toes! How nice to see both of them in the same pic!
It doesn’t happen very often as they are definately not BFF’s! They get along fine…but that’s it!
Just one day to appreciate black cats? Horrors! We appreciate ours every day. As a matter of fact, he is helping me read blogs and email today. Love the things you have stitched…I need to get my Peekaboo kitty done and framed.
yes I agree that one day is not enough!
I have your Deco Kitty stitch guide and the canvas, and I can’t wait until I finish some cyber classes and have the time to start it. I have renamed the design “Pixie on The Stairway to Heaven” in memory of our beloved kitten who died at the age of three months from FIP (after we had her for only 30 precious days). The canvas and stitch guide are so perfect.
I am sorry about Pixie, but that is purr~fectly renamed! enjoy
From what store(s) will the Bastet stitch guide and canvas be available?
I am sure that any needlepoint shop can order Bastet from Tapestry Fair…not sure exactly when the stitching will be done?
