Last I left you yesterday was with this canvas of Bastet, a Goddess of ancient Egyptian religion. This canvas is by Tapestry Fair and isn’t it just gorgeous? I just love it and I really can’t tell you enough of how much I am looking forward to starting to stitch it.
My homework for this class was 2~fold…take a color picture of the canvas and send it in along with comments about what threads that I would like to work with. Soon I would get a list of suggested threads for 6 areas of the canvas and I would go thread shopping.
This is what I have selected based on their suggestions. Gloriana and Belle Soie overydye silks, Panache from Rainbow Gallery, Kreinik, Accentuate, Bijoux, Bijoux Glints, Soie d’Alger and beads. Did I say beads? I was looking through my beads last night searching for a rose gold or a rusty gold bead, but no luck so far. I have lots of wonderful colors in Delica beads, but Delicas tend to have flat edges rather than rounded…so I have found that they don’t lay as purr~fectly in a grouping of beads.
I have since learned that the designs in the 2 upper corners are stylized lotus flowers, common in Egyptian art from this period. I am not sure what the hieroglyphics mean, but I am sure I could ask Peggi of Tapestry Fair and she could tell me.
On other stitchy news, the backdrop for the Thanksgiving set is almost finished and well it could be and it should be, but I have been stitching on something else…well something for me, myself and I. In a way though it is not totally for moi, as it will be part of a future Needlepoint Now. See how I reasoned with myself that it is okay to work on that “other” piece? Plus it has been way too hot and way too humid, well for San Diego anyway… that it has not been the best of stitching weather when you don’t have air conditioning. Usually when it gets too hot for San Diego, it only lasts for 4-5 days, but this time this hotter weather has overstayed its welcome!
I will probably start packing my stitching stuff for seminar as it is never too soon to get it together. See where my priorities are? Laundry is all caught up and I have been thinking about what clothes to bring with me. I am a jeans and a casual type person, so that won’t change much. I am sure that it is hot and humid there too.
The other day you saw AlleyCat peaking inside this bag…and yes Palma you were right! Sylvester was settled in for a nap. I can usually tell know when he sneaks in there as the bag suddenly gets a little fuller! and until next time…keep on stitching
That bag belongs to Sylvester. It is so him and he looks so happy there. I love that egyptian cat canvas and want to stitch it so much. Can’t wait to see what you do with it
he loves that bag Palma! and I see him in there every day…so you can tell that I don’t move it very often!
You should get someone to so your name in hieroglyphics and use that on your canvas. You could put it in that blank square at the top. Would that be cool?
that’s an idea…
I love that idea. Wonder how one could “hieroglyphics” a name
I am not sure Palma!
Vicky,
I *love* this canvas. Are you going to create a stitch guide for it? Oh, I can hardly wait to see what you do with it. RobinG in Indiana
yes I am! and I can’t wait either…
