Do you remember this canvas?
and you might have seen this? This was my cat needle threader that was a birthday gift from the Needlepoint Now Studios… One can never have too many cat related items.
and I shared this picture on Facebook as AlleyCat was snoozing on my lap while stitching. Was she just wanting to be with me? or did she have her eye on that little rat?
You can see that the border and background is stitched and I was working on the cat, stitching with a single strand of Burmilana.
Well here is the finished Mr. Cat with all of his cat~itude. A Pepperberry Design that was ooh so much fun to stitch! The border is a potpourri of ideas from Stitches to Go with a favorite background stitch from one of Brenda Hart’s books, beading, basketweave… well every canvas needs a little of that! laid filling stitches for his vest, packed outline, long and short, wrapped stitches, ribbon work, twisted cording, sorbello knots, cast on bullions and thanks to Meredith for refreshing my memory how to stitch them! And to Brenda Hart for her trick of using huck needles…OMG, what a difference!
And last by not least, Mr. Cat who is a real scamp and a chimney sweep kinda cat, holds his sweep broom which is done in repoussé. It is a technique brought to the Fab Four classes by Mr. Anthony Minieri and Meredith refreshed my memory on how to stitch it. I had seen it done many times, but never had a hands on learning experience.
So if you are attending the summer trade show at TNNA…you are in luck as I will be teaching Mr. Cat at market. Sign up for the class, I would love to see you there! Or ask your favorite needlepoint shop for a class with Mr. Cat…next best thing to taking a class is teaching one! There is a Mrs. Cat and rumor has it that she is coming home with me.
we’ve been pretty busy around here…so I am taking Monday off!
and until next time…keep on stitching
Vicky, Mr. Cat is just stunning!!! Love the cat needle threader! Your work would just not be the same without your devoted helpers! 🙂
I agree! I stitch so much better when AC is at my side…
I love Mr. Cat. You wouldn’t be taking Monday off because it is Opening Day, would you? I am. My plans include hot dogs, Cracker Jacks, and stitching while watching baseball all day. Enjoy your day, whatever you are doing.
ooh you are toooooo smart Bobbi! and thank you
Vicky, Just as an aside. I live in El Paso, where the Padres Triple-A team is moving. Go Chihuahuas. Let me know if you ever want to catch a game here. We don’t have a Needlepoint store, but we do have a talented group of ladies that get together once a month to stitch and chat.
Thank you! I really do love Minor league ball as they have sooooo much fun!
Would you be stitching while watching baseball?!?! I will be doing both!
Just so long as I don’t need to root for them Rockies!
What a handsome fellow! And something fun and interesting to see all over the canvas. AlleyCat and Sylvester seem so good around fibers. My Sienna doesn’t bother my fibers when I stitch or my yarn when I knit. She’s just content with a lap on which to lay her head and a scritch now and then as I pause in my crafting. Enjoy Monday!
Thank you Wendy! Yes they really don’t bother the threads…now Felix was my little imp when it came to threads. He would dig his head into my bag to catnap them!
Lol – you have done it again, introduced me to something new, I had never heard of Huck Needles ! I googled and learnt, I have just bought some on line and will have a go at cast on Bullion using them. Hmmm….. Will have to get my books out to refresh my memory on cast on Bullion. Enjoy your Monday off watching the baseball..? I confess I know absolutely nothing about the game so can make no further comment ;p
The huck needles are great for sliding the bullions or the cast off bullions off the needle. Makes such a difference!
