Back to Stitching…and the Olympics!

Can you be awarded a medal for Olympic stitching? or the stitching Olympics? A whole lot of stitching has been going on, even though I am interrupted a time or two when you absolutely have to look up at the tv and watch what is going on…Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova yesterday, Andy Murray & Roger Federer this morning, the woman’s gymnastics, Michael Phelps, the Chinese divers, Missy Franklin and so many more. Breakfast at Wimbledon, yes it is the Olympics, but they are still playing on the court of Wimbledon, late night stitching with beach volleyball and swimming.

I would like to introduce you to the Pilgrims for the Thanksgiving Set by NeedleDeeva or as I lovingly call them, my “Thanksgiving Peeps” I am stitching some of the components just the same in all of them, such as the sky, the corners of the apple trees, the water, the surf, the sand and the greenery on the bottom. I am pulling from stitches that I know and have committed to memory such as reverse basketweave from Susan Portra and kennan stitch from Brenda Hart. Some stitches I find from scouring through my books. Some effects are created just by the thread that I used, such as Boucle’ for her hair.

Of course Mrs. Pilgrim needs Mr. Pilgrim. I really wanted to use more Burmilana in their clothing, as I really don’t think that their clothes were made of silk…but at times the Burmilana is too heavy for this fine work and doesn’t give me the detail that I was looking for.

The Thanksgiving Peeps are coming to a shop near you and very soon… we are just still working out the details. As soon as I know anything, you will be the first to know! We are kicking them off with 2 of the “peeps” in Needlepoint Now in the November/December issue. What a great time to start stitching them, in the season. I really enjoy that and they can be ready next year for your holiday festivities!

I am spending the day stitching with some friends and dinner…really should be staying in and stitching at home and having dinner with the cats as I get so much more done that way. But I guess I can’t be mostly work and little play. I can reason it with myself that I really am working as I will be working on the “Thanksgiving Peeps.”

Tomorrow it will be back to work at the computer as I finish up stitch guides and ready my work for the magazine. I am trying to get lots done before I leave for seminar. I will need one more thread shopping trip too before I leave for seminar as I search out the purr~fect threads for my canvas that I will be working on with the Fab Four.

AlleyCat is thinking that I am thinking that she is sound asleep. I see that one little eye opened watching my every move as I organize some threads. and until next time…keep on stitching

About Vicky

Needlepoint, morning noon and evening! what could be better than this? I work on the computer in the daylight hours editing stitch guides and drawing stitches that you will see in the next Needlepoint Now for your stitching pleasure! In between this, there is time for taking pictures of my stitching adventures, Facebook and writing stitch guides for canvas that I am stitching for Needle Deeva, Maggie, Ruth Schmuff and others. Mostly needlepoint you ask? well we will talk about my cats Sylvester and AlleyCat, better known as "the brat". Of course I can't forget Felix who was the love of my life for over 14 years. He broke my heart as he departed for the Rainbow Bridge last year. Oh did I mention baseball?

  1. Cats are amazing like that, aren’t they? Had to visit our new Pet Supermarket the other day and my husband pointed out that there were two kittens there for adoption. One kitten worked very hard at never making eye contact and the other channeled our dearly beloved B kitty: Go away! I’ll let you know if I want attention. I had a much better time with the flirtatious green cheek conure. 🙂
