I love to bead! I really do and I can thank a few dear friends, Brenda, Sharon G, Brenda, Susan and Meredith who have really passed onto me the love of beading.
This canvas is Bastet, an Egyptian Goddess that was designed and painted by the oh so talented Peggi of Tapestry Fair. It is the current mystery class of Ruth’s at Bedecked and Beadazzled. Ruth reveals 1 section at a time on Sunday night every few weeks and this was the first lesson, brick style beading the cat.
In our first of the mystery packages to arrive, we were sent 2 tubes of 8.2 grams of size 15 black Miyuki beads. Miyuki is a company name of the beads and they are imported from Japan. Well I think that most beads come from Japan… I figured wow this would be much quicker than stitching it, plus I absolutely love, love, love the look. Did I say love?
Let’s go back to the “I thought it would be much quicker than stitching” thought. It might have well been, but after calculations, the beading of the cat probably took around 3800 beads to complete in around 35-40 hours or so of beading…OMG what was I thinking? Did I actually count the beads? absolutely not! I Googled how many beads in a gram weight of size 15 beads and then came up with the amount.
Not only that when it came to the 2 colors of gray beads, I would continously take pictures of the shading and placement. I also compared to where Ruth placed her gray beads. I am very pleased to say the least with the way it came out!
I had said that after the cat was done, that I would work on the background next. I am really a background last kinda stitcher, so instead I am working on the lotus blossoms.
For you that have noticed a few areas that are already stitched that Ruth just covered or it doesn’t look like what she did, that is what I had already stitched before the class started. And no the basketweave of the hieroglyphics is probably not coming out, well at least I hope not!
Sylvester was in a deep, deep sleep yesterday on the couch with me…
Well not deep enough that he didn’t open one of his eye as if to say “you better not be taking my picture” Sorry kid, your fans await you!
I probably won’t see you until Thursday this week since Elizabeth will still be here visiting this week. Hopefully I will have lots of wonderful pictures with her from our annual Open House for our ANG guild. and until next time…keep on stitching
Stunning! OK, you can blame me for hooking you on beading! What would our needlepoint lives be without beads? Love your fur babies. Such personalities!
ok Sharon…consider yourself blamed! yes the furbabies do have lots of purrsonality…
I did not get any stitching done over the weekend. Why? you wonder. I was in Denver for the Rockies opening weekend! Sorry about the results – welll maybe not too sorry. Knowing you can always beat us later – long season.
Anyway I was thinking about you!!!!!!
ooh its tough being a Padres fan these days! Thank you SuZy…and glad you were there to root your team on. I hope to see you at the summer market!
Hi Vicky-
I’m so bummed that our trip to San Diego this weekend just missed the ANG open house by a couple days. We had a wonderful time celebrating with family, watching the races at Crew Classic, shopping the LNSs and the cake from Michele Coulon’s was incredible! Thanks so much for the recommendation – it was exactly what we were looking for. ~Jennifer
Glad that everything was wonderful…especially the cake! You will be missed tomorrow night…
You are the mistress of the bead as all of us in Fab Fir land know. Fyi. Our friends at Au ver a soie have discontinued 2115!! We. At Enriched. Are snubbing Splendor. Nancy
oh no…no more 2115! That can’t be! My best to everyone at Enriched Stitch. Hope to see you soon!
Hi Vicky,
Wait till you see the package that will arrive with yesterday’s class instruction and supplies! You will be ripping out the Basketweave. 🙂
I also loved what Ruth did with the columns.
The beads on Bastet are worth all of the effort!
No I’m not done but I have just about two hours worth of work on the head. 🙂
Cynthia
I can’t wait for my package! usually gets here on Friday…and no I don’t think that I will be taking out the basketweave! or at least I say that now!
you will make me sign for this. sigh!
“I thought it would be much quicker than stitching” – had the same thought a while back. But, as you said, still well worth the effort
This is the most adorable picture of Sylvester I’ve seen to date
meeoooow! Sylvester says thank you!
oh forgot, can’t you bead on top of the basketweave for the hieroglyphics? It certainly will hold the beads tight. Having stitched 4,000 beads what’s abit more ? 🙂
ooh you are too funny Palma!
