Autumnal Equinox!

Where has this summer gone to? It has just flown by! Today it is officially over, as fall for 2013 begins in the Northern Hemisphere on September 22, 4:44 P.M. EDT. According to internet sources; The word equinox comes from the Latin words for “equal night.” The fall and spring equinoxes are the only days of the year in which the Sun crosses the celestial equator.

From here on out, the temperatures begin to drop and the days start to get shorter than the nights. “It is the summer’s great last heat, It is the fall’s first chill: They meet” Sarah Morgan Bryan Piatt

This Charlie Harper canvas “Octobermania” sure makes me think of fall. What a great time of the year! First of all it is playoff baseball and World Series…the temperatures are cooler and soon it will be time to get your sweaters out of the mothballs.

Mooch922

Even Mooch is noticing in today’s paper that fall is here! That is the one small, small, small…did I say small? downfall about living in America’s finest city, is that we don’t get the beautiful color change of the leaves like the Northeast.

I then start to think about Halloween, a holiday that I love! I think that I now have more decorations for Halloween that Christmas…and I will save that thought for another day.

I think of Mr. Crow, that dapper Halloween crow by Melissa Shirley that I stitched a few  years ago for Aristea. Threads and stitches selected by Wendy Harwood & Laura Taylor. He has a soft spot in my heart every time I see him!

Aristea2

I got to vist with Mr. Crow a few weeks ago while at Aristea.

After Halloween the nights are getting longer and with cooler temperatures…

it is time to spend it in the kitchen. Isn’t this Gourmet Collage by Lani just wonderful? I am not sure what I want to do first…stitch or cook?

AlleyCat922

AlleyCat was just having a little breakfast in the dry food bowl…and she hasn’t even taken the time yet to clean her mouth! What’s a mother to do?
and until next time…keep on stitching

About Vicky

Needlepoint, morning noon and evening! what could be better than this? I work on the computer in the daylight hours editing stitch guides and drawing stitches that you will see in the next Needlepoint Now for your stitching pleasure! In between this, there is time for taking pictures of my stitching adventures, Facebook and writing stitch guides for canvas that I am stitching for Needle Deeva, Maggie, Ruth Schmuff and others. Mostly needlepoint you ask? well we will talk about my cats Sylvester and AlleyCat, better known as "the brat". Of course I can't forget Felix who was the love of my life for over 14 years. He broke my heart as he departed for the Rainbow Bridge last year. Oh did I mention baseball?

  1. Oh, I just love autumn! And the Atlanta Braves will be playing extra baseball this year…woo hoo! Hope the Padres are doing well as I know how much you enjoy going to the games. I have to be content with tv games but I can pull for them all the way. Time to get out some fall stitching too, probably one of my Charlie Harpers now that I’ve seen yours.
