California Stitchin’

If you have ever attended an ANG Seminar, better known as an American Needlepoint Guild Seminar…you recognize what these are! Well I know they are orcas or better known as whales, yes but they are much more than that.

Every year a new city is selected and several hundred avid stitchers gather for a week of stitching and so much more. I love going to seminar and it is something that I look forward to. This year the lucky city is Anaheim, California.

These little whales have been turned into frame weights that are a memento of your week in California. They can be quite a hot commodity and are a must for a collectors item among seminar attendees.

Classes have been selected by hundreds of students from all over the US, Canada and points farther than that and now it is all over but the waiting. Waiting and hoping that the classes that we really wanted, that we are able to get into!

So if you just gotta have one of these orca frameweights and whether or not you are attending seminar…you can order your very own right here. The ones that are dressed for the display are for display purposes only and are not for sale.

I was busy this morning working on stitch guides and then ran a few errands. In between it all I made a detour and went to see “42; The Story of Jackie Robinson” and for you non baseball people, he was the first African American that played baseball. He was quite an inspiration and I knew that he had a hard time breaking the color barrier, but I never realized the depth of his challenges. It was quite a great movie and Harrison Ford was wonderful as Branch Rickey. Tonight is my opening day as I head downtown to see the Padres and the Rockies play. As always I hope for a good game and may the best team win!

I got in some stitching last night as I continue to work on Bastet, the mystery class piece from Bedecked and Beadazzled. Mr. UPS didn’t deliver the latest lesson today, so I will have the rest of the week to work on the lotus flowers. Tonight I did as much reverse stitching as I did stitching, so I got nowhere very fast!

About Vicky

Needlepoint, morning noon and evening! what could be better than this? I work on the computer in the daylight hours editing stitch guides and drawing stitches that you will see in the next Needlepoint Now for your stitching pleasure! In between this, there is time for taking pictures of my stitching adventures, Facebook and writing stitch guides for canvas that I am stitching for Needle Deeva, Maggie, Ruth Schmuff and others. Mostly needlepoint you ask? well we will talk about my cats Sylvester and AlleyCat, better known as "the brat". Of course I can't forget Felix who was the love of my life for over 14 years. He broke my heart as he departed for the Rainbow Bridge last year. Oh did I mention baseball?

  1. Enjoy your baseball game. I’m not lucky enough to live where the Braves play but still watch them whenever I can. Just watched them beat Washington 3-1 so it is a good day. Now watching the Masters golf which is a good thing to have on when you are stitching. I never mind my husband watching sports as that means I have a great excuse to sit and stitch! Hope your team wins.

    • Carol…your team is on fire! and yes they did beat the Nats today. I saw a game years ago in Turner Field and still have great memories of it! and the Masters in yoru backyard too!

  2. If there is a way for me to forward an e-mail to you, let me know at my e-mail address. This one is cute animal pictures, one of which is How to Catch a Cat, which just made me think of all the great pictures you post of your cats.
